UPDATE: Feud Led To Stabbing at Car Wash

Police say the victims and the suspects had been involved in a long-standing dispute

Two men arrested in a stabbing at a car wash in Walnut Creek had been in a long-standing dispute with the two men who were seriously injured in the incident, authorities said.

Police arrested Jorge and Rogelio Argueta of Walnut Creek on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The men were booked into County Jail in Martinez on $50,000 bail.

The arrests came after officers responded to reports of a fight involving five people in the parking lot of  the Walnut Creek Car Wash in the 2900 block of North Main Street shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, police said.

Sgt. Tom Cashion said the suspects and victims were neighbors involved in a long-term feud.

“Some altercation occurred between them where one of the suspects had pointed a gun at the victims and then that led to a fist fight, which then led to the stabbing,” Cushion said. “The gun turned out to be a BB gun or air soft gun.”

The suspects were caught at the North Main Apartments next door to the car wash after residents at the complex directed police to them, Cashion said.

The suspects were booked on three felony assault with a deadly weapon charges for each victim and a misdemeanor exhibition of a replica of a firearm charge.

The two stabbing victims ran into an apartment of the complex, where police officers found them starting to dial 9-1-1 for an ambulance.

Lt. Mark Covington said both men had suffered "significant stab wounds" in their upper torso. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where they underwent surgery. They are now listed in stable condition.

A third victim was discovered with stab wounds to the forearm but refused medical treatment, police said.

The car wash is on a commercial section of North Main Street, a block north of Geary Road near the Pleasant Hill border.
