Walnut Creek, Concord Police Arrest Concord Man in Auto Burglary

K-9 officer and dog help locate the suspect hiding in some bushes after a 45-minute search.

Police arrested an 18-year-old Concord man Saturday after searching for him for 45 minutes around Arbolado Park where a vehicle burglary had occurred.

Police received a report just before 1 p.m. Saturday that someone had broken the window of a vehicle in the 3600 block of Arbolado Drive and stolen a purse.

Walnut Creek police asked for help from Concord police, including a Concord police K-9 unit. Meanwhile, several citizens were chasing after the burglar.

The K-9 officer trailed the burglar along the East Bay Regional trail through several different neighborhoods. The officer said he spotted the man running across a cul-de- sac and trying to hide in heavy foliage in the front yard of a home. 

When the man refused to come out, the K-9 officer sent his dog into the bushes. The suspect, Marco Antonio Diaz, received bite wounds on his arm but was arrested without further incident.

After being treated for the bites, he was booked in County Jail in Martinez on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest. The property stolen from the victim was found and returned.
