Two men, one from Walnut Creek, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot in the Bay Point area north of Pittsburg late Sunday night, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Giovanni Navarro, 21, of Walnut Creek, and Jesus Medrano, 20, of Oakland, were caught after a high-speed chase and backyard search, Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

About 11:45 p.m. Sunday, a team of sheriff's deputies heard gunshots while patrolling Solano Avenue in Bay Point, Lee said. A man ran down the street and jumped into the passenger side of a waiting car that sped off. The passenger then jumped out and ran into backyards while deputies caught up with the car and arrested  the driver, Lee said. Deputies set up a perimeter in the area, conducted a yard-to-yard search and soon found him hiding in a backyard, Lee said.

Other deputies at the scene cared for the wounded man who was suffering from non-life threatening injuries, Lee said.

Medrano and Navarro were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, Lee said.
