Walnut Creek Man ID'd as Victim Struck, Killed on Caltrain Tracks

A pedestrian who was struck and killed by a train on the Caltrain tracks in Atherton Thursday night has been identified as 33-year-old Jordan Brinkman of Walnut Creek, the San Mateo County coroner's office said today.

Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said the incident occurred at about 9:45 Thursday night on the southbound train tracks at Watkins Avenue in Atherton.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim intentionally stepped onto the tracks as the train made its way south from the Redwood City station to the Menlo Park station, Dunn said.

Southbound Caltrain 192 left San Francisco at 8:40 p.m. and left the Redwood City station at 9:28 p.m.

It was scheduled to stop in Menlo Park at 9:33 p.m. Trains do not stop at the Atherton station on weekdays, Dunn said.

The train was carrying 481 passengers and 37 bicyclists. No passengers or crewmembers were injured.

This incident marks the fifth fatality on Caltrain tracks so far this year, Dunn said.
