Update: Walnut Creek Police Arrest Inmate After Manhunt

Texas man, 23, had run from sheriff's patrol vehicle at John Muir Medical Center.

Update: 12:50 p.m. Saturday -- details from WCPD

An escaped inmate who knocked on the doors of some Ygnacio Court homes asking to use the telephone was apprehended at 1:13 a.m. Saturday after hours of a police search that involved a helicopter, canine unit and many officers covering buildings and yards.

Walnut Creek police at 1:13 a.m. Saturday detained without a struggle a Contra Costa County jail inmate who had run off from a sheriff's patrol vehicle at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek Friday night.

Joshua Plummer, 23, of Texas, an inmate at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond, had been treated at John Muir, according to a news release by the Contra Costa sheriff's office. After he was cleared by the hospital, shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, a deputy was placing him in the back of the patrol vehicle when Plummer ran.

"The suspect eluded capture at first," reported Walnut Creek Sgt. Steve Gorski in an email. "Later WCPD received a call from residents on Ygnacio Court that a suspicious male was knocking on doors asking to use the phone. Officers arrived in the area quickly and surrounded the suspect. With the assistance of the police K9 the suspect gave up without a struggle."

Sheriff's deputies and Walnut Creek police conducted the search. Plummer has been booked into the main jail in Martinez. He was originally in custody for an out-of-state warrant.

I hate sand in parks. Nice breeding area for lice, and a great place for ferrel cats to poop. IRead More can't wait for them to do the park at Arbolado.
