Walnut Creek Police Log: Auto Thefts, DUI While Parked, Drunk In The Bushes

Some of the incidents that kept Walnut Creek police busy last week

Here are some of the items from the Walnut Creek police log from Dec. 16 to Dec. 20.

Monday, Dec. 16

Truck theft: Officers were notified at 7:24 a.m. that a white GMC truck had been stolen overnight from a fenced-in construction yard in the 200 block of Las Juntas Way. The truck had the words "New West Landscaping" on the doors.

Sculpture theft: Police were informed at 9:35 a.m. that a metal climbing sculpture had been stolen from the front of a building in the 3800 block of Terra Granada Drive.

Another auto theft: The owner of a brown Honda Accord called police at 10:35 a.m. to report the car had been stolen from the 1700 block of Trinity Avenue.

Auto burglary: Officers were informed at 11:12 a.m. that a gold 1997 Honda Accord had been burglarized in the 2000 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard. The driver's side window had been pried open. A stereo was taken.

Fire hydrant caps stolen: Police were notified at 12:25 p.m. that the caps on fire hydrants near the Broadway Plaza fountain had been stolen recently.

More auto burglaries: Police were informed at 2:07 p.m. that a white Toyota had been burglarized in the 1900 block of North Main Street. Two minutes later, officers were notified of another auto burglary a block away outside Fuddrucker's. In both cases, the windows of the vehicles were smashed.

Stolen bicycle: Officers were notified at 4:45 p.m. that a silver mountain bicycle had been stolen from a home in the 1400 block of South Main Street. The lock on the bike had been cut.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

Auto theft: Police were informed at 10:47 a.m. that a blue 1999 Toyota had been stolen recently from a parking lot in the 400 block of North Civic Drive.

Public drunkenness: A 62-year-old man was arrested for public drunkenness at 5:04 p.m. while walking in the 1100 block of Locust Street. The man also had two no bail local warrants.

DUI while parked: A 44-year-old woman was arrested for driving under the influence at 6:53 p.m. while her car was parked in the Countrywood Shopping Center on Bancroft Road. Officers said the woman was slumped over the wheel of her car while the engine was running. Technically, that's a DUI.

Another auto burglary: Officers were notified at 8:52 p.m. that a black Infiniti had been burglarized in the Palos Verdes Mall. A window of the car had been smashed. A backpack and a wallet were stolen.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

DUI arrest: A 23-year-old woman was arrested for driving under the influence at 12:12 a.m. at Parkside Drive and North Main Street.

Drunk in the bushes: A 30-year-old man was arrested at 1:01 a.m. for public drunkenness after officers said he fell into some bushes in the 2700 block of North Main Street and couldn't get up.

Three bicycles stolen: Officers were notified at 8:07 a.m. that three bicycles had been stolen from a garage in the 3200 block of Inverness Drive.

Auto burglary: Police were informed at 7:04 p.m. that a blue Honda Civic had been burglarized in the 1300 block of Civic Drive. A window had been smashed and clothes were taken.

Thursday, Dec. 19

DUI arrest: A 50-year-old woman was arrested at 12:08 a.m. for driving under the influence in the 500 block of Lawrence Way.

Another auto burglary: Officers were notified at 12:32 p.m. that a white GMC truck had been burglarized at San Juan Avenue and Gabriel Court. A window had been smashed. Stolen were a computer and a line laser.

Bike taken from balcony: Police were notified at 1:43 p.m. that a black GT mountain bicycle had been stolen from a balcony in the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue. The bike had two locks on it.

DUI while sleeping: A 45-year-old man was arrested at 7:05 p.m. for driving under the influence after officers found him sleeping in his car in the 1300 block of Locust Street.

Friday, Dec. 20

DUI arrest: A 31-year-old man was arrested at 12:37 a.m. for driving under the influence in the 1300 block of Locust Street.

Home burglary: Officers were informed at 11:19 a.m. that a home on Aleman Court had been burglarized. The garage door had been pried open. A sofa, a power saw and other tools were stolen.
