Walnut Creek Police Log: Lots of Auto Burglaries, Some Auto Thefts, A Few Accidents

Some of the incidents that kept Walnut Creek police officers busy last week

This is some of the items listed on the Walnut Creek Police Department logs from Dec. 9 to Dec. 13.

Monday, Dec. 9

DUI arrest: A 54-year-old woman was arrested at 12:43 a.m. for driving under the influence after her car was stopped at Putnam Boulevard and Geary Road.

Public drunkenness: A 25-year-old man was arrested at 1:06 a.m. for public drunkenness in the 700 block of Bancroft Road.

Bicyclists collide: Police were notified at 2:54 p.m. that two bicyclists had collided on the canal trail at Oak Grove Road. One cyclist was taken to the hospital for chest pains and cuts.

Christmas gifts stolen: Officers were informed at 3:58 p.m. that a blue 2011 Toyota Prius had been burglarized in the 1500 block of Geary Road. A rear passenger window had been smashed. Christmas gifts as well as a watch and cosmetics were stolen.

Tuesday, Dec. 10

Rugs, silver stolen: A homeowner called police at 12:02 a.m. to report rugs, silver and china worth $6,500 had been stolen from their home while they were away the past six months. The burglar picked the lock of a rear door to gain entry.

Device stolen: Officers were notified at 5:21 a.m. that a nuclear density gauge and three dust monitors inside a green case had been stolen from the back of a truck in the 1200 block of Springbrook Road. The items were eventually found discarded in Lafayette.

Ice accident: Police were notified at 7:56 a.m. that two vehicles had collided at San Miguel Drive and Sierra Drive. One motorist's car skidded after hitting a patch of ice. The drivers of both cars were treated for minor injuries.

Auto burglary: Officers were informed at 11:46 a.m. that a silver Hyundai had been burglarized in the 1700 block of Botelho Drive. The burglar apparently used a "slim Jim" to gain entry. A stereo system and speakers were taken.

Home Burglary: Police were notified at 1:12 p.m. that a home in the 4700 block of Terra Granada Drive had been ransacked and burglarized. A window was broken in the den. A television, a printer, a Nook device, jewelry and an Oklahoma University football were stolen.

Auto Burglary: A car owner called police at 2:50 p.m. to report the window had been smashed on his white 2011 Ford Mustang in the 1700 block of Botelho Drive. Stolen were a GPS as well as registration and insurance papers.

Another auto burglary: Police were notified at 6:15 p.m. that a gray Jeep had been burglarized in the 1800 block of North Main Street. A window had been smashed and a laptop computer was stolen.

Auto burglary again: Officers were informed at 6:39 p.m. that a red Ford Explorer had been burglarized at Locust Street and Bonanza Street. A window was smashed. Stolen were a Kindle and a laptop computer.

Yet another auto burglary: Police were notified at 6:50 p.m. that a gray BMW had been burglarized in the 2000 block of North Main Street. Again, a window smashed. Stolen was a black backpack.

More auto burglaries: Six more auto burglaries were reported on Tuesday evening between 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., all in the downtown area. In each case, the window of a car had been smashed and items were taken from inside.

Drunken fight: A 24-year-old man was arrested for public drunkenness at 9:20 p.m. after getting into a fight with another man in the 1800 block of Cole Avenue.

Wednesday, Dec. 11

Auto theft: Police were informed at 7:57 a.m. that a silver Honda Civic had been stolen in the 2900 block of North Main Street.

Another auto theft: Officers were informed at 1:40 p.m. that a red 1995 Honda Civic had been stolen from the 3000 block of North Main Street.

Yet another auto theft: A car owner called police at 2:40 p.m. to report a blue 2012 BMW had been stolen from the 1300 block of Alma Avenue.

Public drunkenness: A 22-year-old man was arrested at 7:01 p.m. for public drunkenness in the 1500 block of Olympic Boulevard. 

Another auto burglary: Officers were notified at 8:12 p.m. that a white Toyota Camry had been burglarized in the 1500 block of Sunnyvale Avenue. The window had been smashed. A purse with 10 credit cards was stolen.

Thursday, Dec. 12

Bicyclist injured: Police were dispatched at 5:14 p.m. to the corner of Cole Avenue and North California Boulevard where a bicyclist had been hit by a car. The cyclist was taken to the hospital with a lacerated chin and a broken collarbone.

Auto burglary: Officers were notified at 6:03 p.m. that a red Acura Integra had been burglarized in the 1300 block of Locust Street. A window on the car had been smashed and an iPod stolen.

Drunken pedestrian: A 52-year-old man was arrested at 7:19 p.m. for public drunkenness in the 1100 block of South California Boulevard.

Public drunkenness: A 62-year-old man was arrested at 10:43 p.m. for public drunkenness in the 1200 block of South California Boulevard.

Friday, Dec. 13

Commercial burglary: Police were informed at 12:17 p.m. that a work site at Barkley Avenue and Overlook Drive had been burglarized by someone who used bolt cutters to cut open a lock. Some tools were stolen.

Fraudulent check arrest: A 38-year-old man was arrested at Target at 2:15 p.m. for writing a fraudulent check.

Another auto burglary: Officers were informed at 2:48 p.m. that a blue Mazda had been burglarized on Pino Crest. A door had been pried open. Stolen was a backpack with a laptop inside.

Theft at the ice rink: Police were notified at 4:16 p.m. that two people had iPhones stolen from unlocked lockers at the ice rink in Civic Park.

Theft at carport: A man called police at 6:10 p.m. to report golf clubs and a sleeping bag had been stolen from his carport in the 1900 block of Desert Circle.
