Walnut Creek Police Log: Stolen Bikes, Expensive Jewelry Heist, Attempted Carjacking

Some of the incidents that kept Walnut Creek police officers busy last week

Here are some of the items from the Walnut Creek Police Department log from Nov. 10 to Nov. 14.

Sunday, Nov. 10

Midnight basketball: Officers went to the Larkey Park area at 12: 36 a.m. to investigate a noise complaint. They found two people playing basketball. The players agree to leave.

Drunk in public: A 25-year-old man was arrested at 1:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Locust Street for drunkenness.

DUI arrest: A 41-year-old motorist was arrested at 1:37 a.m. at Ygnacio Valley Road and Civic Drive for driving under the influence after an officer noticed a blue Kia swerving between lanes.

Bicyclist hit: Officers were informed at 10:56 a.m. that a bicyclist who had been riding on the canal trail had been struck by a car at Oak Grove Road and Graymont Circle.  The cyclist suffered minor injuries.

Hotel parking lot burglary: Officers were notified at 12:56 p.m. that a window had been smashed overnight on a car parked in the Marriott Hotel lot on Parkside Drive. A brown purse with a wallet inside was stolen.
 
Stolen automobile: Police were informed at 1:39 p.m. that a black GMC Blazer had been stolen overnight while parked in the 1000 block of Ygnacio Valley Road.

iTheft reported: Officers were notified at 4:00 p.m. that someone had stolen an iPhone and an iPad after helping a resident into a house in the 100 block of Crosby Court.

Monday, Nov. 11

Shrub fire: A homeowner on the 2600 block of Grande Camino told police at 2:08 a.m. that two young men had started a fire in the shrubs outside their home after the resident refused to answer the door when they knocked on it.

Auto burglary: Police were notified at 1:19 p.m. that a window had been smashed on a gray Honda Accord in the 2700 block of Ygnacio Valley Road. A wallet and purse were taken. Credit cards were used at Walmart and a Shell gas station.

Stolen bicycles: Police were informed at 3:24 p.m. that several bicycles worth $5,300 had been stolen from inside a locked cage in the 1300 block of Creekside Drive.

Auto burglary: Officers were notified at 4:29 p.m. that a radar detector, a dog leash and office supplies were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2300 block of Gill Port Lane.

Bicycle theft: Police were notified at 5:11 p.m. that a red Mongoose boys mountain bike had been stolen from a house in the 3300 block of Arbolado Drive.

Auto theft: Officers were informed at 6:24 p.m. that a 1996 gray Honda Civic had been stolen from a lot in the 100 block of Player Court.

Jewelry theft: Officers were notified at 7:28 p.m. that more than $12,000 worth of jewelry had been stolen from a house in the 1700 block of Oakmont Drive. The thief gained entry by prying open the back sliding glass door.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Attempted ATM theft: An employee called police at 5:50 a.m. to say someone had broken into the Diablo Hills Golf Course building overnight and tried to remove the ATM with a chain.

Auto Burglary: Police were notified at 11:08 a.m. that a window had been smashed on a 2001 Acura parked in the 1100 block of Locust Street. A gym back and a laptop computer were taken.

Wednesday, Nov. 13

Attempted carjacking: Officers were informed at 11:59 a.m. that a man in his mid-20s had tried to pull someone out of a car on the 2300 block of Shannon Lane in what appeared to be an attempted carjacking. Police believe the suspect had burglarized a nearby home and was unable to start his get-away car. The suspect left before police arrived.

Library laptop theft: Police were notified at 4:21 p.m. that a laptop had been stolen from the second floor of the downtown library after the computer's owner had left it alone for an hour.

Auto theft: Officers were informed at 4:31 p.m. that a 1996 green Saturn had been stolen while parked in the 1300 block of Creekside Drive.

Another auto theft: The owner of a blue/white Suzuki called police at 11:04 p.m. to report their vehicle had been stolen from the 100 block of Park Lake Circle.

Thursday, Nov. 14

ATM broken into: Officers were notified at 2:34 a.m. that two men wearing hoodies pried open the door of a business in the 1900 block of Tice Valley Boulevard and used a gas powered saw to get inside an ATM.

Bicycle stolen: Police were informed at 1:18 p.m. that a blue Marin 28-speed cross bike had been stolen from the 1200 block of South California Boulevard after its cable lock had been cut.

Another bicycle theft: Officers were told at 1:38 p.m. that a black mountain bike had been stolen from the 2900 block of North Main Street.

Car stolen: Police were called at 4:48 p.m. by the owner of a 1994 brown Honda Accord to report his vehicle had been stolen in the 1600 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard.
