Watch Out For Caldecott Tunnel Backup

Power outage shuts one bore of tunnel Saturday evening.

A power failure shut down the center bore of the Caldecott Tunnel on eastbound state Highway 24 around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The California Highway Patrol warned motorists are to expect severe delays and seek alternate routes. There is no estimated time of opening, according to the CHP.

As always, you can check the flow of local highways with the live traffic map on Patch with the "Traffic & Gas" tab above or here.  At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, it was showing a red stripe of slow traffic on Highway 24 heading into the tunnel from Oakland.
