WC Detectives Arrest Daytime Burglar After Treat Boulevard Foot Chase

Fifteen-year-old accused of stealing loaded firearm, ammunition and jewelry on Chantilly Court.

Walnut Creek detectives got a little sprinting practice in Monday in a foot pursuit of a 15-year-old suspected of stealing a loaded firearm, ammunition and jewelry in a Chantilly Court residential burglary Monday morning.

Detectives developed some information and located the suspect at 2:55 p.m. Monday in a parking garage in the 1200 block of Treat Boulevard.

After the foot pursuit, the detectives took the teenager into custody with the firearm, ammunition and jewelry in his possession, according to a Walnut Creek police press release.

In the Chantilly Court burglary, witnesses reported seeing a subject loitering in the neighborhood around 10:30 a.m. Monday, the time of the burglary, police said.

The suspect was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of a loaded firearm.

Word at Northgate HS is that he was a student. Little punk is lucky the officers didn't shoot him, running from them with a loaded gun and all.

I think this is illustrative of the limited use guns provide in deterring crime. Either (a) the owner of the gun was home but the loaded firearm didn't help or (b) the owner of the gun wasn't home and left a loaded firearm where a burglar could find it. In either case we almost had another gun available for criminals to use. Kudos are definitely in order for the neighbors who noticed the loiterer and the WCPD who made use of that information to track down and capture the thief.
