WCPD: Clean Windows Are Not A Crime

Also, multiple DUIs and other wrongheaded and criminal acts reported to Walnut Creek police from April 6 to April 8.

April 6
Bike DUI. At 1:18 p.m., Walnut Creek police officers pulled over a 25-year-old man and charged him with DUI on a bike on Civic Drive. He was released to a sober driver.

Hit the pole and ran. At 4:17 a.m. on Hutchinson Road, a Honda hit a pole and the driver got out and ran away, police said. Officers caught up with the 28-year-old man and charged him with DUI.

Back-door man. Reported at 10:43 a.m., a man was captured on video entering via a back door and stole a safe with cash in it from Guanatos Ice Cream on Bancroft Road. Police are investigating.

Evidentiary keys. Reported at 11:11 a.m., a grey Honda Civic on the 1800 block of San Miguel Drive was broken into and an iPod was stolen. The burglar left a "giant set of keys" behind, police reported.

April 7
Got a ride. Reported at 8:41 a.m., a suspicious man was seen looking into yards on Sunnyvale Avenue. He was described as a black man with a dark jacket and white collar and blue pants. Officers concluded there was no crime and gave the man a ride to the BART station.

April 8

Big fight. Responding to a 1:14 a.m. call, officers broke up a fight involving about 10 people on the 1400 block of Locust Street and sent the combatants home.

'Only the clean windows remain.' At 12:16 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious man loitering around a back lot on the 1300 block of Locust Street, washing windows of a random car. He was described as a black man wearing a beige jacket and a dark blue shirt. Officers reported he was gone when they arrived and "only the clean windows remain."
