WCPD: Returning a Wallet … Or Keeping It?

Also a jogger punches a car in a right-of-way dispute, and other questionable and criminal acts reported to the Walnut Creek police from March 27 to March 29.

March 27
Youth on bike. At 2:48 p.m., Walnut Creek police responded to a resident complaining about a boy about 7 years old being too young on too small a bike to ride on busy Ygnacio Valley Road southbound. The cyclist was gone on officers' arrival.

Concert over. At about 5 p.m., a man and a woman were singing in front of a business on the 1300 block of North Main Street. The owner complained they were disrupting business. The troubadours  agreed to move along.

March 28
Motorcycle spill. At 7:30 a.m., a motorcyclist spilled on Ygnacio Valley Road near Heather Farm Park. He was transported to John Muir Hospital with a broken leg, police reported.

Alarming boast. Reported at 9:51 a.m. on San Juan Avenue, one third-grader told another his mom was going to bring a gun to school. Officers gave advice to the students and the principal and determined no crime was committed.

Flat-screen TV stolen. Reported at 2:50 p.m., a resident — who was watching a house in which the residents were traveling — noticed a window screen pried open. Officers concluded a flat-screen TV was burglarized sometime in the last five days from the house on the 1100 block of Fairlawn Court.

Trying to turn in a wallet? Reported at 1:24 at the Safeway on Ygnacio Valley Road, a customer at the Starbucks inside the store found a wallet with a "substantial amount of money in it." The customer refused to turn in the wallet to Safeway employees "because she says if the owner doesn't come forward soon, she's going to keep it." She eventually left the store and stated she would return. Police are investigating.

March 29
Potential hazard. At 8:06 a.m., officers waited with a BMW with a leaky gas tank at Lesnick Lane and North Main Street. The driver said he struck debris on I-680 that apparently punctured the tank. A tow truck came to pick up the car.

Make way for ducklings. Some ducklings were entrapped in a storm drain on Mandarin Lane. Officers performed the liberation.

Jogger vs. car. At 6:35 p.m., a jogger and a car drive had an argument over right of way on Buena Vista Avenue. The jogger reportedly punched the car. Officers counseled the parties and the decision was: "no prosecution desired."
