Confrontation with Police in Broadway Parking Lot

Just two days after another bar fight broke out in Walnut Creek, a confrontation near another downtown lounge early this morning resulted in two arrests, police said.

The two men were taken into custody this morning on weapons and narcotics charges, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.

At approximately 12:07 a.m., police say they contacted four suspicious individuals in a parking lot near Vice Ultra Lounge on Broadway.

One man, later identified as a 29-year-old Pittsburg resident, ran from the officers and discarded a firearm loaded with an illegal, high capacity magazine, police said. The officers chased and caught up with the man and used a taser to prevent him from escaping, according to police. The man was taken into custody for possession a loaded firearm, parole violation, possession of narcotics and resisting arrest.

Another man, a 25-year-old Hercules resident, was arrested for an outstanding warrant for a weapons violation, police said.

According to police, both men were transported to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office detention facility in Martinez, police said. The other two subjects were released.
