Bill To Increase Number of Medi-Cal Recipients On Governor's Desk

What do you think? Should more low-income Californians be added to Medi-Cal rolls?

The state Legislature has sent to Gov. Jerry Brown a bill that will add about 1 million more Californians to the state's Medi-Cal program.

The bill, ABX1 1 by Assembly Speaker John Perez, will expand Medi-Cal to 1 million low-income and uninsured Californians.

The federal government, under President Obama's Affordable Care Act, will fully pay for the program for the first three years and then pick up 90 percent of the cost in subsequent years.

In Contra Costa County, there are more than 91,000 Medi-Cal recipients enrolled in the Contra Costa Health Plan. Another 14,000-plus are signed up under Anthem Blue Cross.

What do you think? Is this a bill the governor should sign? Should more people's health needs be taken care of under the Medi-Cal program?
