Can't Get A Handle on New Bag Ordinance? Walnut Creek Hosts Q&A Sessions

Outreach sessions are April 2, 3, 9, and 10. Fair is planned April 29.

The Walnut Creek City Council adopted a plastic bag ordinance in March, and beginning on Dec. 18 restaurants, food trucks, delicatessens, cafeterias, or any other food-related businesses cannot distribute single-use carryout (plastic) bags with handles to shoppers.

The ordinance is intended to curb single-use plastic bags and plastic pollution in favor of longer-lasting reusable bags.

Community outreach meetings are planned this week and next for residents to have their questions answered and learn more about the change.

The meetings, at City Hall at 1666 N. Main St, are:

  • Wednesday, April 2, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 3, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 9, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 10, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Also planned: Green Bags and Containers Fair on April 29 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at City Hall. Ask questions to vendors directly and find suitable bags for your business.
