City OKs Alcohol Hours for Neiman Marcus Cafe

Cafe will be within Broadway Plaza store that opens March 9.

There's a bit of sensitivity in Walnut Creek these days when it comes to city rulings on alcohol-service hours for bars, restaurants and cafes.

On Tuesday, the City Council took a dim view of and changed a permit for the downtown bar to scale back its alcohol-serving cutoff from 12:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Two evenings later, the city Planning Commission had a long discussion before unanimously approving beverage hours for the internal cafe in the Neiman Marcus that opens in Broadway Plaza on Friday, March 9.

The plan approved has the Neiman Marcus cafe serving alcohol until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and until 4 p.m. Sundays. For special events (including planned fashion shows), the resolution allows Neiman Marcus to extend those hours, with the permission of the Walnut Creek police, up until 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday.

The cafe on Level 2 will be about 1,100 square feet in an 87,000-square-foot building.

The day before the opening, with buffets, cocktails and several groups providing live music. The gala raises money for four East Bay charities.
