Council Examines Redevelopment Options Tonight

Resolution seeks support for postponement of state's dissolution of local agencies.

The Walnut Creek City Council is due to wade into the waters of redevelopment policy and revenues tonight.

The council had scheduled a three-part meeting today, with a budget study session at 2 p.m., a closed session at 5 p.m. to review negotiations with city employee groups and a pending lawsuit, Blake's at Boundary Oak LLC vs. The City of Walnut Creek, and an open session at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.

A resolution before the council asks for Walnut Creek support for bills in the state Legislature that would postpone the state's dissolution of local redevelopment agencies until April 15 to allow time to develop new alternatives. One bill would ensure existing balances in cities' low and moderate housing fund be retained by the successor to local redevelopment agencies.
