Danville Mayor Challenges Steve Glazer for State Assembly Seat

Newell Arnerich plans to run for the state assembly seat that is currently held by Joan Buchanan.

Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich is hoping to be the next state assemblyman for the 16th District. Also planning to run for the seat is Orinda City Councilman Steve Glazer, who announced his intention last month.

Arnerich, who has been on the Danville Town Council since 1995, will run as a Democrat, and is seeking the seat currently held by Joan Buchanan (D-Alamo), whose term limit is up in 2014.

The district includes Lamorinda, Walnut Creek, Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore.

Arnerich, 60, was re-elected to the Town Council in November, finishing second out of seven candidates to secure another term.

In a press release, Arnerich said:

My role at the State level will be to focus on long term budget planning and bring back an affordable University of California and State University education for our children in the State of California. My wife and I both owe our career successes to affordable access to the University of California and State University educations. The future of California has many different roads to choose from, let’s choose the path for success of our children, public education and business communities. I have learned that when there is a problem in California we ‘innovate’ solutions and not continue on the road of the past, but rather focus on the future. California is the best place for innovation and there is no problem we cannot solve with dedicated and passionate leadership,

So who is going to 'throw their hat' in the ring? Anyone willing to stand up to ABAG is welcome to apply!

Neither of these candidates deserve our vote. Isnt it ironic that both of these candidates support outside agencies governing our local issues. Isnt one of the main reasons residents incorporate into cities is so they will have a voice and control over what happens in their respective cities. I agree that a candidate needs to step up thats willing to ABAG/MTC on.

Thank you Charlie! I could not have said it better myself. It is high time we elect statesmen/stateswomen who will actually follow the will of the people and not unelected regional planners. Wake up people you're losing your freedoms and ultimately your Country.

Yes, Bob. And when and if that candidate appears, we should monetarily support him/her and campaign our socks off! ". . . it does not require a a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds." Samuel Adams

We'll find out where he stands at the next Town Council meeting, March 5th. I encourage all Danville and interested District 16 voters to attend and see who the real Newell Arnerich is. Better come early the meeting will be packed!
