Broadway Plaza Hearing I

The owner of Broadway Plaza has released a sketch putting an image to one idea forwarded at an Oct. 4 hearing in Walnut Creek.

The idea was for a more prominent outdoor meeting place, with a fountain, able to accommodate more people.

With this sketch in mind, you can go to hearings Wednesday in which the public has more opportunities to share its dreams for future growth at Broadway Plaza.

Plaza owner Macerich has scheduled these sessions:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 26, 3 p.m., in the Oak Room, Walnut Creek Public Library, 1644 Broadway, Walnut Creek.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m., Scott's Seafood Restaurant, 1333 N. California Blvd., Walnut Creek.

Free parking will be provided at the latter site, according to a Macerich news release. Refreshments will be provided at both.

This input builds on ideas generated at the first set of .

“We're going to be saying, 'You suggested this idea, here's how it might work at Broadway Plaza,'" said Chuck Davis, vice president of Macerich, in a news release. "These should be exciting and interesting meetings where we work together to shape some big ideas. In effect, Broadway Plaza is asking residents to join the design team in this important next step."

This community dialogue is taking place alongside a general plan application with the city of Walnut Creek for the 15-year development plan for Broadway Plaza.  The resulting master plan likely would be considered by the city of Walnut Creek in spring 2012.

At Broadway Plaza, the new Neiman Marcus is under construction, with opening planned for March 2012. The 60-year-old Broadway Plaza features Nordstrom, Macy's Women, Children & Home, Macy's Men & Juniors, Crate & Barrel and dozens of specialty shops.
