'Fore' Shadowing a Disc Golf Course In Walden Park?

It's round, it flies a fair distance, and the goal is to get it in the hole. But it's not a golf ball. It's a golf disc, a round plastic saucer (think Frisbee), and it appears as though a disc golf course is coming soon to Walden Park.

According to the Contra Costa Times, the Park, Recreation and Open Space Commission last week agreed to recommend to the City Council that Walden Park be the site of the course. It will cost about $5,500 to install, and a disc golf group has offered to volunteer the labor.

Some neighbors aren't terribly happy with the idea, concerned that the course will bring more traffic, parking problems, and crowds of people to what is now a fairly bucolic setting.

But proponents say that the game, while growing in popularity, is not likely to attract that many people.

There are also courses in Moraga, Berkeley, and San Ramon.
