Martinez Democrat is a longtime incumbent.

Longtime incumbent George Miller has filed his papers with the Contra Costa County Clerk's office to run in the new 11th district of California.

“I’m running for re-election to Congress to reignite the American Dream and we’ve got a lot of work to do,” stated Miller in a news release, “to grow our economy in Contra Costa and across the country, help small businesses and entrepreneurs create good jobs, protect the environment, invest in transportation and infrastructure, and improve our schools. Our economy is beginning to improve but we still have so much to do.”

Miller is the senior Democrat on the House Education and the Workforce Committee.

Miller has a video in which he explains his reasons for running.

shifted Miller's district deeper into central Contra Costa, including Walnut Creek, for the November 2012 election.
