Has The Federal Government Shutdown Affected You Yet?

Some federal offices and parks are closed, but other services continue, at least for now

Unless you had an appointment at the Internal Revenue Service office in Walnut Creek on Tuesday, the federal government shutdown probably didn't directly affect you.

The IRS taxpayer assistance office on Lennon Lane was closed on Tuesday after Congressional leaders failed to reach a compromise on a spending plan to keep  government operations going.

The Social Security Administration office on Civic Drive was open, but only one window was available and the clerk there said employees were limited in how much they could do for customers.

National parks were closed, including Muir Woods, Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Mail delivery will continue as will food inspections. Air traffic controllers and airport screeners will also remain on the job.
