Stressing his involvement in community and business groups, Justin Wedel on Thursday launched a second campaign for Walnut Creek City Council.
Two years ago, he ran unsuccessfully for a council seat.
In Thursday's announcement (which is attached to this article), Wedel laid out four platforms for his campaign:
- Reduce budget and spending — "Treat every tax dollar as I do my own."
- Ensure a safe community — "Fully staff our Police Department."
- Strengthen local businesses — "Collaborate with our business community to provide them with the tools and support necessary to be successful."
- Support Open Space, Arts and Recreation programs — including "developing public/private partnerships to ensure their viability for generations to come."
Challengers Barry Grove and Loella Haskew have also announced plans to run. Incumbents Bob Simmons (the mayor) and Kish Rajan (the mayor pro tem) have taken out nomination papers to run again. Incumbent Gary Skrel wrote in a Thursday email, "I have pulled papers and remain undecided on running for re-election." The nomination period ends Friday, Aug. 10, or Wednesday, Aug. 15, if it turns out an incumbent fails to file by Aug. 10.
Wedel has worked in information technology and founded a technology startup company in Walnut Creek.
