Late Documents Delay City Council's Review of Apartment Project

Carpenters union is appealing Planning Commission approval of North Main Street building.

A City Council controversy over a 126-unit apartment project on North Main Street is on hold for two weeks.

On Tuesday, the council was due to hold a public hearing on an appeal of the Planning Commission's conditional use permit for, formerly the Walnut Creek Motor Lodge.

The appeal was by the Carpenters Union Local 152, saying the project would have adverse environmental impacts on air quality, traffic and land use. The union said the apartment project was inconsistent with the city's general plan.

Both the applicant, developer Miller Creek Residential Trust, and the union filed "voluminous" pages of new information for Tuesday's meeting, said Sandra Meyer, the city's community development director. City staff needs time to review the new documents.

The matter will go on the city agenda for Oct. 18.
