Legislative Solution To Bump & Grind Trail Closure Emerges

Last June, the California Department of Fish and Game installed a gate to enforce the closure of the upper Bump & Grind Trail.

Assemblymen Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, and Manuel Pérez,D-Coachella, are expected to announce legislation that could resolve the closure of the upper loop of the Bump and Grind Trail this Saturday.

A press conference is set for 10:30 a.m. at the trail head in Palm Desert, off Painter's Path.

The California Department of Fish and Game installed a gate to enforce the closure of the upper half-mile of the trail in June 2011.

The closure aimed to protect the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep.

Also known as the "Mirage Trail," the Bump and Grind is located in the 1,280-acre Magnesia Falls Wildlife Preserve in the mountains above Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage.

Hundreds hikers use the trail each week, and voted it as the for the best trail in Palm Desert.

Luckily, there are still a few people who will not allow the far left environmental wackos to ignore facts in their zeal to keep the public off public land. All the facts are well presented and documented at "save the bump and grind" on facebook.

Fish and Game do some good things. However they lose sight of the bigger picture of the world while sitting behind their desks under flourescent lighting. You guys gotta' get out into nature more .....breathe the air......see the sun. Stop making up sh*t about big horn sheep being negatively impacted by nature loving hikers.

D be cool with F&G, they are following orders and some have the greater understanding of spirit of the law and letter of the law. Some don't. Fortunately, I passed two good souls on the Cross trail with my dogs, and they were not being bad guys about it. Ever get a warning instead of a traffic ticket...? On many occasions I warned those who were polite and just needed a reminder...those who put lives at risk or started the conversation with "don't you have real crime to fight" Well they would never learn from a warning. Some of the former F&G have championed this fight, and believe as we do. some have written articles which back up our message. Just food for thought before you make a friend and enemy.

"Just following orders" ? That's supposed to excuse a bureaucratic decision based on fabrication and lies? Following orders? Like the order not to release the truth for fear of being exposed? Those types of following orders? And that's supposed to coax people into "Being cool with F&G"??? Surely you must be joking. Why are we not laughing?
