Legislative Wrap-Up: Collective Bargaining, Energy Storage, Affordable Care Forum

Some of the activity this past week involving East Bay legislators in Sacramento and Washington D.C.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill by Assemblyman Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) to improve the collective bargaining process.

The bill, AB 537, updates the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act by streamlining arbitration action and reducing court costs.

Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley)
praised a decision by the California Public Utilities Commission to set energy storage targets.

The program allows utilities to harness excess electricity generation and then use it when it's needed.

The process was set in motion by AB 2514, co-authored by Skinner.

Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Napa) hosted an informational forum on the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday night.

The forum was held at the Filipino Community Center in Vallejo.

It focused on the new enrollment procedures and benefits in California.
