Mayor's Walnut Creek Walks Program Advances

It's got a logo and more details about how you can get involved.

Walnut Creek Walks is making strides.

The new city program, unveiled by new Mayor Bob Simmons, has a logo and a few more details pacing around the city website.

There are four components:

  • Second Saturday walks with and the next one will take in the Iron Horse Trail, starting at 10 a.m. Jan. 14 in front of the Walnut Creek BART station on the steps at the corner of California and Ygnacio Valley Road.
  • Open Space Adventurer Program — open to youngster through fifth grade. Participants visit all four Walnut Creek open space areas and take a class hosted by either the Open Space Division or the Lindsay Wildlife Museum. More details to come.
  • Walking meetings with the mayor — Simmons encourages those who wish to met with him to consider a "walking meeting." To meet with the mayor, call the city manager's office at 256-3504.
  • Walnut Creek Walks! — Participants will log miles walked in Walnut Creek, with recognition for milestones reached. The city promises an online registration system early in 2012.
