Most City Offices Closed Through Jan. 3

City manager's ability to plan common time off was negotiated into most recent contracts.

Most city buildings and offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, extending into next week, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Public safety service will remain available. The Lesher Center ticket office will be open Dec. 24 and 31.

The ability of the city manager to schedule a common week off for many offices was negotiated into contracts with non-safety bargaining units.

"We will have limited staff working who are required to fulfill various duties that must continue over the next week," wrote City Manager Ken Nordhoff in an email.

The decision for a shutdown at the end of December will be an annual one, and will be re-evaluated for 2012.

"This time of year is selected as it is usually quiet around City Hall and other community sites, as most members of the community are focused on families, holidays and their own work closures or business time off," said Nordhoff.
