New Candidate Takes Out City Papers

J. Barry Grove, a deputy district attorney for Contra Costa County, is a candidate for Walnut Creek City Council; incumbents Kish Rajan and Bob Simmons have already announced their candidacies.

J. Barry Grove of Warwick Drive, a deputy district attorney for Contra Costa County, has taken out papers to run for Walnut Creek City Council Nov. 6.

Grove confirmed his candidacy in a short telephone interview Thursday. He talked about his candidacy in a Thursday interview.

Incumbents Bob Simmons, the mayor, and Kish Rajan, the mayor pro tem, have announced they are running for re-election. Incumbent Council member Gary Skrel has said he is undecided.

The period for taking nomination papers out began this week. It runs through Aug. 10 unless an incumbent council member does not file by then, in which case the nomination period extends to Aug. 15.
