No Treat Boulevard Closure this Weekend

Closure won't take place as originally scheduled but could take place Friday and Saturday nights next weekend.

Pending construction issues mean that Contra Costa County public works crews won't need to close Treat Boulevard around Jones Road Friday and Saturday nights this weekend to finish work on the new $6.8 million Iron Horse Trail pedestrian bridge.

But the closures could take place next weekend, said Nick Panayotou, the engineer for the project.

Crews have been closing Treat Boulevard between Oak Road and Cherry Lane, and a portion of Jones Road for the past two weekends. Last weekend, the crews installed the final three decks of the bridge to close the gap. On Saturday night, they began to install the fence and handrail.

Panayotou said the target date for opening the bridge to the public is August 25.

More than 1 million people per year use the Iron Horse Trail, and the new bridge will provide walkers, runners, and bicyclists a way to safely get across this very busy intersection.
