In Candlelight, Rally Decries Corporate Greed

Just under 50 protesters gather with signs and candles to speak out again American corporations in downtown Walnut Creek.

This time, they were singing.

Protesters gathered mostly in front of Tiffany's at the intersection of Mt. Diablo and Main to sing songs chastening corporate overreaching and conveying their messages about Wall Street.

A Walnut Creek Patch count at 6:05 p.m. tallied about 45 protesters at the intersection with signs and candles. But, this time, there was a trio of singers with microphones and speakers who sang songs like "This Land is Your Land" with modified lyrics that spoke out against American corporations.

Larry Beans of Lafayette was on hand to protest corporate greed, especially during the holiday season.

"A lot of people these days don't have the money to go out and spruce up Christmas," said Beans. "It just shows that the Federal Reserve and the government is only interested in serving the corporate interest in America."

Sheliah Fish helped set up the event that was part of a national Day of Action organized by MoveOn.org.

"We are wanting people to focus on bringing economic equality back to this country," explained Fish. "Our purpose is to make a statement about Congress. We are one action, but there are hundreds of these taking place all throughout the country today."

Although this candlelight event was a one-day event, the regular "Occupy" Walnut Creek protests on Wednesday afternoons "will continue until it doesn't."
