Q&A With Congressman John Garamendi

The Horizon Leadership Series at Brandman University will bring local officials to answer questions about regional issues.

If you have questions for local elected officials, you may have an opportunity to ask them in person at the Horizon Leadership Series, which will be held at Brandman University in Walnut Creek.

The monthly series will feature a different official who will be available in an open forum to answer questions and interact with the public.

The next speaker at the series will be Congressman John Garamendi on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We want this to be different from what people usually experience when they come and see elected officials speak,” said Melodie Lane, manager of community and corporate relations for Brandman University. “It will be all Q&A. No speeches allowed.”

Lane said the idea came from Tom Guarino, East Bay public affairs manager for PG&E, and Greg McConnell, a consultant and legislative advocate with the McConnell Group. The goal is for the public to have questions answered about regional issues.

“[Guarino and McConnell] felt like there was a need for it,” Lane said. “The whole idea of the Horizon Leadership Series is they present the speaker and what is on the horizon for our region.”

The session with Garamendi has already sold out, with 65 people attending.

A Facebook page has been opened to provide additional information about the series.

The Horizon Leadership Series will take place at Brandman University, 2950 Burskirk Ave., Third Floor, Room 307 in Walnut Creek. Cost is $20.
