Treat Boulevard To Close Again Tonight and Saturday Nights

The Iron Horse Trail pedestrian bridge is coming along, with closures scheduled again for this weekend along Treat Boulevard.

Contra Costa County public works crews will shut down the intersection of Treat Boulevard and Jones Road at night again this weekend as they continue to work on the new $6.8 million Iron Horse Trail pedestrian bridge.

Crews will close this intersection from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.

Treat Boulevard will be closed between Oak Road and Cherry Lane, and Jones Road will be closed from the BART station to just south of Treat Boulevard. Motorists should follow detour signs and those needing to enter or leave the Pleasant Hill BART station should use Oak Street.

Nick Panayotou, the engineer for the project, said that tonight the crews will be installing the final three decks of the bridge to close the gap. On Saturday night, they will begin to install the fence and handrail.

Treat Boulevard and Jones Road will be closed at the same times next weekend so crews can finish their work on the fence and handrail.

Panayotou said the target date for opening the bridge to the public is August 25.

More than 1 million people per year use the Iron Horse Trail, and the new bridge will provide walkers, runners, and bicyclists a way to safely get across this very busy intersection.
