Walnut Creek Launches Citizen Survey

City is surveying 2,000 households about their community and municipal services.

The city wants to know what residents think about their community in general and municipal services in particular.

The city is surveying 2,000 households to get the answer.

The surveys are expected to arrive in households next week; postcards alerting residents to the survey were mailed this week, according to a city news release. The survey is implemented by the National Research Center in Boulder, Colo., which also conducted the City’s 2007 survey.

“We hope to get a high response rate; the results will help the City Council make important decisions that affect the community,” said City Manager Ken Nordhoff.

While the majority of questions in the 2012 survey were also included in the 2007 survey, the 2012 survey also asks respondents to rate the importance of each of the six goals set by the City Council as part of the 2010-12 budget process:

  • A Safe Community;
  • Culture, Recreation and Learning Opportunities;
  • Economic Vitality;
  • Strong Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community;
  • Stewardship of the Natural and Built Environment; and
  • Effective Transportation and Mobility Options.

Results are expected in late March, to be presented to the City Council and posted on the city’s website. The results will help shape the 2012-14 budget.
