As of Monday, the only sign I have spotted around Walnut Creek for a candidate running in a November 2 happens to be for Carlyn Obringer, who is running for City Council--in Concord.

The blogger Claycord.com reported that Walnut Creek was "being invaded by Concord City Council election signs." Claycord.com said that signs for Concord city council candidate Ron Leone had been posted in Walnut Creek's Encina Grande shopping center, which is home to Safeway, Walgreens and Rocco's Ristorante Pizzeria at Ygnacio Valley and Oak Grove roads.

On Monday, I didn't see any of Leone's signs, but I found one of Obringer's signs affixed to a light pole along the north side of Oak Grove Road, near Shadelands Drive.

Meanwhile, a check Monday of "Sign Hill" at the corner of Ygnacio Valley Road and Homestead Avenue produced, in cop lingo, "negative results."

However, I noticed a worn and fading sign for Gus Kramer's successful run for Contra Costa County on June 8 walong Homestead Avenue. As you can read, city law says that Kramer's campaign should have removed the sign--way back in early June.

Here are some rules for posting campaign signs in Walnut Creek, per the Municipal Code:

  • Political signs may be displayed on any privately owned or maintained lot or parcel, and, of course, the property owner's permission is required.
  • Signs shall not be attached to any utility pole, fence, building structure, object tree or other vegetation located upon or within any public right-of-way or publicly owned or maintained laned.
  • Signs shall be removed within seven days after the election to which they relate. For the November 2 election, that would be November 9.

If you start to see campaign signs around town for candidates for any races coming up, let us know and send us pix--especially if you think the posters have pushed the legal limits.

Let's see, we have local races for Walnut Creek City Council, Walnut Creek School District, Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Contra Costa County District Attorney ...
