A Sad Anniversary at Las Lomas High

A year ago, two members of the Class of 2012 died in a rafting accident on Walnut Creek waterways.

Las Lomas High marked a sad anniversary.

A year ago, with streams running high from rain, Matt Miller and Gavin Powell drowned in a rafting accident through the urban waterways of Walnut Creek, which swept them through underground channels.

Students left the pictured memorial on the campus on Thursday, Feb. 16, the one-year anniversary. Also, there were posters where students could write messages to the families of the late rafters. The senior class is raising money to build an outdoor education memorial to Powell and Miller.
