Classified Employees Begin Contract Negotiations With Walnut Creek School District

The talks are centered on a new three-year agreement for the district's classified employees

Negotiations have officially begun between the Walnut Creek School District and its 100 or so classified employees.

Representatives from the Classified School Employees Association Chapter 202 on Monday evening gave the school board a list of issues they'd like to discuss.

The negotiations are for a new three-year contract that would be retroactive to July 1 and extend to June 30, 2016.

Dick Weyand, the CSEA chapter president, said the association has a good relationship with the board and the superintendent. He didn't foresee any serious problems in the talks.

Salary, benefits and work rules are among the topics to be discussed. Weyand said the language of the contract is also important, so that there are no misunderstandings that require the district to bring in "400 dollar an hour attorneys."

"We want a document that is a readable and accessible document," said Weyand, who is also the head custodian for the district.

He said CSEA representatives will meet with school board members on Nov. 12 to discuss the district's financial situation.

The CSEA negotiations come one week after the district's teachers started their negotiation process.
