County Plans Pedestrian Path Link to School

Construction targeted for 2015 for path to Walnut Heights Elementary School in unincorporated Walnut Creek.

Contra Costa County is making plans for safer walkways for children striding toward the gates of learning at Walnut Heights Elementary School.

The plans are to build a pedestrian path along Walnut Boulevard east from the school, from Bellows Court extending to join the existing sidewalk at Clarkin Court. The project is on a track to be built in 2015, according to the summer newsletter of county Supervisor Karen Mitchoff.

"Because this option includes only five feet of widening for the pedestrian path, it is a less expensive option, which allows the pedestrian path to extend approximately 2,600 feet to Mountain View Boulevard," states a county document on the project.

Now, pedestrians in some places are forced to walk in the street along Walnut Boulevard.
