Interim Principal at Walnut Creek Intermediate is a Familiar Face

Former Principal Barbara Armstrong takes over temporarily; Kevin Collins has become the chief business official for the Walnut Creek School District.

Kevin Collins, who served as principal at Walnut Creek Intermediate for six years, is the new chief business official for the Walnut Creek School District.

Barbara Armstrong, who preceded Collins as principal at WCI, will serve on a temporary basis. There is no timetable for hiring a new principal, but Armstrong expects to fill in for at least six weeks, while the process of advertising the open position and interviewing candidates takes place.

Collins took over for Armstrong in 2005. Previously, he served as an associate principal at Miramonte and Las Lomas high schools.

Armstrong served as principal for 11 years before retiring after the 2004-2005 year. Recently she has served as an interim principal at Walnut Heights Elementary School on two occasions. Her first stint came in 2007, for a period of six months, and she also filled in for five weeks last school year.

The Walnut Creek School District’s governing board approved the move on Monday night.
