Northgate Area Residents: Do You Want Friday Night Lights at The High School

Besides considering its budget, the Mount Diablo Unified School Board also has another hot issue on its hands, and it has to do with Northgate High's football field.

Last fall, hundreds of people packed a special Mount Diablo Unified school board meeting to show their support or to protest new stadium lights that would bring Friday night football games at the campus.

Northgate High School wants to add lights to their stadium, but some neighbors expressed opposition last fall to the effort. They are worried about the noise, traffic, and litter, among some other things, that would come with Friday night games.

The stadium lighting proposal will come to the school board tonight, the Contra Costa Times reported.

This $1.5 million lighting and stadium upgrade projects is part of a larger effort by the Northgate Community Pride Foundation, a parent-led nonprofit fundraising organization, to improve sports facilities at the school.

The school board meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. at Monte Gardens Elementary, 3841 Larkspur Drive, Concord.
