It's been almost two decades since Northgate High's football team has ventured this deep into the post season.
The victor will play the winner of Friday night's Concord High vs. Clayton Valley Charter High contest for the Division II championship.
Northgate, the third seed in the division, is 9-2 so far this season, including an impressive 30-6 win last week over Newark Memorial High.
Rancho Cotate, the second seed, is 11-0 this year, including a 21-14 victory over Las Lomas High last week.
Steve Chappell, Northgate's athletic director, said you probably have to go back to the school's 1995 team to find one that got this far in the playoffs.
Chappell said students and the team's fans are pumped up for the game. He expects a large contingent of Walnut Creek residents to make the trek to Rohnert Park.
"The buzz around the community is strong. We're excited," he said.
