The Broncos take on Rancho Cotate High in the NCS Division II semi-finals on Saturday night

It's been almost two decades since Northgate High's football team has ventured this deep into the post season.

On Saturday night, the Broncos travel to Rohnert Park to take on undefeated Rancho Cotate High in the semi-finals of the NCS Division II playoffs.

The victor will play the winner of Friday night's Concord High vs. Clayton Valley Charter High contest for the Division II championship.

Steve Chappell, Northgate's athletic director, said you probably have to go back to the school's 1995 team to find one that got this far in the playoffs.

Chappell said students and the team's fans are pumped up for the game. He expects a large contingent of Walnut Creek residents to make the trek to Rohnert Park.

"The buzz around the community is strong. We're excited," he said.
