Playoffs Are Cruel to 3 Local Girls Volleyball Teams

Congratulations to Berean Christian, Las Lomas and Northgate for excellent seasons.

The glass is half full or the glass is half empty.

Half full means congratulations to three Walnut Creek girls volleyball teams that made it to the playoffs.

Half empty means that all three local teams took it on the chins in Wednesday's round of playoffs.

Las Lomas volleyball parent Mark Nieto said it was a long bus ride home from Santa Rosa Wednesday after the Knights bowed before Maria Carrillo High of Santa Rosa.

"Our girls battled hard ... actually had game point in game 1, but couldn't put it away," wrote Nieto in an email. "Lost in 3, 24-26, 17-25, 20-25. Maria Carrillo was surprisingly good ... very good defense and creative offense. Northgate also lost in 4 to Redwood. That championship match should be excellent."

Redwood defeated Northgate
3 games to 1: 12-25, 15-25, 25-21, 19-25.

In the Division 4 playoffs, Salesian Pride High defeated Berean Christian 3 games to 1: 17-25, 25-22, 11-25, 17-25.
