Strange Man Tries to Chat up Buena Vista Student; Police, School Officials Warn Kids to Be Careful

Girl not hurt by man who approached her as she was leaving Buena Vista Elementary campus Friday.

School and police officials are warning Walnut Creek students to be wary of strangers after a man approached a fourth-grader leaving the Buena Vista campus Friday evening.

Walnut Creek School District Superintendent Patricia Wool said the girl was walking from the campus by herself at about 5 p.m. after attending an after-school event. A man driving a large older-model white convertible drove up alongside the girl and tried to engage her in a conversation. The man, who was white, approximately 55 years old and with blond hair, then got out of his car and approached her.

Wool said the girl ran home, and the girl's parents immediately contacted the Walnut Creek Police Department, who responded to the area.
