Walnut Creek Schools Ace their API Scores Again
Teachers, administrators, parents, and even realtors can breath a sign of relief. (Yes, our housing values can depend on how well our kids and schools do on these standardized tests.)
As much as people like to gripe about the state of public education in California and the United States these days, there are some bright spots. And one of those bright spots include schools serving Walnut Creek K-12 students.
The Academic Performance Index (API), what is effectively a report card for individual California public schools, came out Monday.
And, all Walnut Creek schools, governed by three different school districts, received grades that would earn them "excellent" ratings. That is, these schools made the target goal of 800 on the API. The API is a numeric index that ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1000, with a statewide target of 800.

The only exception, at a district-wide level is Mt. Diablo Unified, which earned a score of 784. However, individual Walnut Creek schools within Mt. Diablo Unified, posted scores of 800 or above.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell on Monday released California's 2009-10 Accountability Progress Report (APR), which includes the the 2010 Growth API numbers. The API is based upon results from the statewide Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program and from the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE).
