WCSD: Back to School With Online Registration

Update Aug. 7, registration snapcodes mailed, more details on individual school schedules.

Before the children show up for the first day of school Aug. 22, their parents will register — online.

The Walnut Creek School District has converted to registration by computer. In an email this week to parents, the district is giving parents secure access information ("Snapcodes") to allow them to register online. After registration, each family still needs to attend Welcome Back Days/ TRI-S to receive student schedules and other back-to-school information. If parents do not have access to a computer, there will be parent volunteers available to assist at Welcome Back/ Tri-S Days. The Welcome Back/Tri-S schedules for individual schools are below.

Superintendent Patricia Wool said the system will:

• streamline data collection.
• reduce paper used for forms and fliers.
• save printing and mailing costs.
• reduce staff and volunteer efforts "so the first days of school can begin smoothly."

Data may be more reliable entered electronically rather than by hand, Wool said. Online registration is the result of a two-year Information Technology effort at WCSD. There are also efficiencies for families with more than one child enrolled, Wool said.

The first day of school for all schools in the district is Wednesday, Aug. 22. Information about back to school, registration and office hours at individual schools follows:

• Buena Vista Elementary
Office reopens Aug. 17. Welcome Back Day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20.

• Indian Valley Elementary
Office reopens at 9 a.m. Aug. 15 to register students new to Indian Valley. Welcome Back Day for kindergarten and new families, 4-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20.

• Murwood Elementary
Welcome Back Registration Day is 8-11 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.

• Parkmead Elementary
Office reopens at 10 a.m. Aug. 13. Welcome Back Day on Monday, Aug. 20; for new families, 8-9 a.m.; whole school from 9 a.m. to noon and 4-7 p.m. 

• Walnut Heights Elementary
Welcome Back Registration Day is 9 a.m. to noon, and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20.

• Walnut Creek Intermediate
Welcome Back Registration Days are 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 15.
