An Online Look at Northgate, Las Lomas Football

Cal Preps website projects a 6-4 season for the Knights.

The real games will be fought on the gridiron with leverage and sweat and sweet speed on the corners. 

In the meantime, coaches are evaluating those qualities in practices while the prospects of football teams are played out in statistics and website metrics.

The Cal Preps website, which has a stunning volume of information on high school football teams in California and nationally, has a detailed breakdown for the Las Lomas Knights and a more basic entry for the Northgate High Broncos.

First, the Broncos under the tutelage of Coach Justin Lowell — the Crimson and Gold were 9-3 last year. They play in the Diablo Valley League. They open with a game at Livermore at 7 p.m. Sept. 2.

Cal Preps has a full entry for the Knights, coached by Doug Longero. Last year, they were 5-6 overall and 4-2 in the Diablo Foothill League.

Cal Preps lists their top players as junior quarterback Jackson Miller and two on the defensive line, Mitch Frentescu and Derrick Stom.

Cal Preps looks at all the power ratings and ranks the Knights 409 in the state and 5,302 in the nation. The website projects a 6-4 regular season record.

The Maroon and Gold open with a visit from Vintage High of Napa at 7 p.m. Sept. 2.
