Brazilian Capoeira Street Roda

CAPOEIRA IN THE STREETS!  CAPOEIRA EQULIBRIO TO PERFORM IN FRONT OF WALNUT CREEK’S LESHER CENTER FOR THE ARTS!

At 1PM On Saturday, May 19, Contra Costa’s only Capoeira School will bring their unique and exhilarating form of Afro-Brazilian Martial Arts to the streets of Walnut Creek!

Combining elements of self-defense, acrobatics, dance, music, and games, Capoeira has all the seriousness and discipline of the well-known martial arts traditions, with the addition of a uniquely playful element. Dating back to the 16th Century, Capoeira’s origins are a matter of debate. It is thought by many to have started as a fighting style disguised by the façade of dance. Capoeira’s roots span ancient African combat techniques to early Brazilian folk dance.

A $10 donation is requested for attendance, all proceeds will benefit the non-profit California Against Slavery.

Following the ceremony, at 12:45, the participants and masters will march to the Lesher Center for the Arts for a street roda—Capoeira in the streets, just like one might see in Brazil! The street roda will be from 1PM to 1:45 and is sure to be exhilarating entertainment for all.
