Finals For Syncronized Swimming In Walnut Creek This Weekend

Local group Aquanuts and national swimmers will compete for slots in the national finals this weekend.

Synchonized swimming is here, Walnut Creek.

The final phase of U.S. National Team Trials for USA Synchro will continue through Sunday at Heather Farm Park. Swimmers are competing for spots on one of three U.S. National Teams that will represent the United States in major international competitions, including the Pan American Games and World Championships.

“Hosting National Team Trials is a tremendous honor and we are thrilled to host such a prestigious event in Walnut Creek,” said event manager Tina Fletcher of the Walnut Creek Aquanuts. “We are working with USA Synchro and the Walnut Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau to make this event memorable for all the participants and their families.”

Some of these athletes will likely represent the United States in future Olympic Games.

Walnut Creek Aquanuts have a long history of representing the United States on the National Teams. Last year's National Teams included 11 Walnut Creek Aquanuts.

This year 16 athletes from the Walnut Creek Aquanuts  ages 12-18 qualified for the final phase of the National Team Trials: Ava Jih-Schiff ( Danville), Morgan Boneberg (Clayton), McKinzie Chelberg (St Paul, MN), Alexa Tchekmarev (Troy, MI), Alyson Haylor (Las Vegas, NV), Jamie Kuchan(Mesa, AZ), Natalie Fletcher (Concord), Dana Drury (Walnut Creek), Elizabeth Atencio (Martinez), Daria Torba (Orinda), Karina Boyle (Walnut Creek), Gillian Brassil (Moraga), Jasmine Carrillo (Walnut Creek), Joanna Langner (Lafayette), Sandra Ortellado (Walnut Creek), and Elisabeth Welzien (San Ramon). 

About the Walnut Creek Aquanuts

The Walnut Creek Aquanuts (WCA) is a world-renowned synchronized swim club based in Walnut Creek, California. Over its 45-year history, WCA has produce 20 Olympic athletes and garnered more than 200 national and world competition titles. WCA is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization, with a roster of over 100 athletes ranging in age from 7 to 17, and in ability from novice to Olympic hopeful.
