Girls Water Polo: Top-Seeded Las Lomas Falls to Acalanes in NCS Semis

The Knights lose 6-2.

In what could surely be categorized as a heavyweight battle between two of the best girls water polo programs in the North Coast Section, the outcome may signify a changing of the guard. The No. 1-seeded Knights were upset in their NCS semifinal match against Acalanes.

The Knights led  1-0 lead after the first quarter which saw both schools turn the ball over repeatedly. All-Diablo Foothill Athletic League performer Erin Donoghue scored on her first shot of the evening. After that, the Knights were able to consistently get shots on Don's goaltender Megan Mes. However, they came-up empty just about every time.

It wasn't until the mid third quarter that the Knights would register their next goal. This coming on a shot by Megan Davenport. At that point the outcome of the contest was still in question, as The Dons held just a 4-2 advantage. The Knights fought on.

Any chance of a fourth-quarter comeback was thwarted by penalties (six on five) in which Acalanes took advantage and scored upon in both instances.

Las Lomas did manage to execute 25 shots on goal from their potent offense for the game. In the end, though, they had little to show for their effort. DFAL Most Valuable Player Danielle Johnson was limited to just one shot in the contest. Goaltender Mackenzie Brokaw had seven saves.
