Half-Marathoners To Conquer Walnut Creek Sat.

Inaugural race starts at 7 a.m., course goes Broadway to Civic to Ygnacio Valley and turns around.

Subtract some cars and add some sleek and swift bipeds Saturday morning. Let's see what that does for Ygnacio Valley Road traffic.

It's with more than 2,000 racers expected. Gun goes off at 7 a.m. Saturday and most of the course is  on Ygnacio Valley. They've got a Facebook page, you bet.

A half-marathon is 13.1 miles. That's those people you see with bumper stickers that read "13.1." The ones with "26.2" bumper stickers are marathoners. Even more slender. Perhaps more obsessive.

Police will close two eastbound lanes of Ygnacio Valley Road between 5 and 11 a.m. Broadway will be closed between Rudgear and Civic Drive from 4:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

The half-marathon starts on South Broadway near Whole Foods.

There is no race day registration so forget about rolling out of bed early Saturday morning, lacing em up and racing for 13.1.

The County Connection has some special buses to accommodate the hard runners.
